Confused about which trend to follow this summer? Look no further: we’ve picked the season’s four key catwalk looks and recreated them from the high street.
GRUNGE
Banish thoughts of Courtney Love now: grunge circa 2013 is a different animal. Key exponent
Philip Lim layered biker jackets, jumpsuits, canvased utility trousers and distressed denim – and that’s what you sould be doing too. A man-ish aesthetic was offset by sheers and florals. Tartan, via Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, comes into its own.
Floral bomber jacket, £519, Fendi. Check trousers, £24, Dorothy Perkins. Patent duffle bag, £30, JW Anderson for Topshop.

MONOCHROME
We thought we’d be utterly bored by monochrome by now but check out the high street, which is standing fast by the season’s most popular trend – as pioneered by Balmain, Balenciaga, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana – and finding new ways to make it fresh again. The thing with black and white? The possibilities are endless.
Dress, £17.99, Krisp. www.krisp.co.uk; Belinda snake print tote, now £25, Fiorelli, leggings, £12.99, H&M, platform sandals, £65, & Other Stories.
COBALT
Cobalt, royal, baby: blue is the colour of the season. This is an easy trend to master: it doesn’t dictate skirt length or shape, it just wants you to dedicate yourself to a single hue. Go all over as at Burberry Prorsum, Stella McCartney and Jonathan Saunders or blend pattern against pattern to achieve a look that’s completely 2013.
Pleat-waist flare dress, £59.95, Almari, Printed button-back blouse, £35, Myleene Klass. bag, £6, Matalan, clutch, £60.84, Biba, Whispered cross-over wedges, £42, Topshop.
CONTRAST
Designers Derek Lam, Preen and Proenza combined colour and texture with enormous elan on SS13 catwalks. The take on the high street is less luxe, more layered. Be fearless in your experiments and wear florals with checkerboard, photo print with geometrics, tiger print with gingham.
Scarf print kimono dress, £67.50, Biba, Geo tile notch hem bodycon dress, £30, Topshop, High-waist silk twill trousers, £1,220, Givenchy; Gipsy raffia wedge, £179, Ash.
